What Inspired Medically Correct

Eleven years ago at the onset of Colorado medical cannabis legalization, Medically Correct was born with a mission to truly help people.  We launched the incredibles chocolate bar line and have since become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cannabis-infused products and have helped countless licensed cannabis companies across the U.S. learn the art of extractions and infused product production.

We owe it all to Grandma Noni, the original inspiration for Medically Correct.  After witnessing the healing powers that cannabis had on his grandma, Bob Eschino, Co-Founder and President of Medically Correct, was inspired to create consistent, quality medical cannabis products for patients in Colorado.  We had a chance to connect with Bob and chat with him about his journey.  He’s what he shared with us.

Q&A with Bob Eschino

Bob, how did your professional background look before cannabis?

Well, during college in the late 80s, I was a sushi chef in Fort Collins serving sashimi to cowboys… it was a bit of a task and quite hilarious!  Then I became a bartender while waiting to become a rockstar, and after college, the packaging industry found me.  I excelled quickly as a salesperson and my career took off.

What inspired you to enter the cannabis industry?

As you know, I got into the cannabis industry through my grandmother. Back in 2009, she was towards the end of her life and my brother, Tom, started making edibles for her.  She was someone who’d never touch cannabis or topicals for her pain, but she’d eat a cookie and all of a sudden her appetite would return, her pain levels drop and she could sleep.  As I watched this unfold right before my eyes, the light bulb went off and I approached Rick about making edibles at his bakery.

How did your advocacy start and develop once you entered the cannabis space?

It really started right out of the gate when I quickly realized that if I wasn’t sitting at the table, other people were making the rules for me and my business that could hurt us. So I showed up everywhere I could.  Soon after adult-use came out, we got together with the Cannabis Business Alliance and put out one of the first education campaigns teaching people to “start low, go slow”.  We also created recommendations for the budtenders to suggest to new patients; to start with low doses and build slowly day by day until they find their ideal dose.  We gave all the dispensaries education cards to talk about with their patients and put them in every bag.  I’m glad this way of thinking at dispensaries is now standard at least here in Colorado.

What regulations have your and the company’s efforts helped shape?

If you look at current CO regulations, they mimic what Medically Correct regulations have been.  As we did more things in the CO cannabis space that the Department of Revenue saw and liked, those things were incorporated into the rules and regulations.  First it was testing oils in finished products and using proper packaging with nutrition fact labels.  And personally, I traveled across the country helping to guide individual markets.

What is your proudest achievement?

That I’ve actually helped people!  First just my grandmother, then other families and children with health issues, then veterans with PTSD, and so many other people including retired athletes who all really need the relief cannabis offers.  It really makes me proud.

Where do you hope to see the company in 5 years?  10 years?  Etc.

Medically Correct is our Colorado licensee and is a great testing ground for new brands and products.  If you can be successful here, you can be successful anywhere.  I see us getting our new brands cemented and shored up here in CO, then taking them to other states and finding solid partners for national expansion.  I also see us becoming a company able to provide quality cannabis product options to every tier of the consumer.
